Seven Reading Implementation Centers (RICs) offer 40-hour (5 day) professional development institutes specific to the state-adopted reading/language arts programs for K-6 educators.
Teacher Institutes are planned in centrally located sites throughout the state. Most institute offerings are concentrated in June-August. The instructional content is program and grade specific and is offered for multiple levels, years 1-4 for Houghton Mifflin Reading, Open Court Reading 2002, Foro abierto, and Lectura programs.
Educators from participating districts can expect to learn in a strong collegial environment, in a classroom setting, taught by instructors who are exemplary teachers, coaches and content experts of the state-adopted reading language arts programs. Instructors have in-depth knowledge of the specific components of reading as defined by scientific research, as well as a solid understanding of The California Reading/Language Arts Framework and The California English-Language Arts Content Standards. All have extensive experience with English Language Learners and struggling readers. Professional Development Reading Institutes for Teachers, Coaches and Administrators from participating districts
